I'm Beth Ely (EEE-LEE)! I'm a full-time photographer and cinematographer based out of Durham, NC. Not many people can say they have their dream job, so I know just how lucky I am. My amazing clients allow me to capture intimate, honest, joyful images of their lives, and I love knowing that the pictures I'm making will be cherished for generations. I stumbled upon photography in college and fell in LOVE. I took every photography class that was offered (even temporarily switching majors to learn about fine art photography). I was hooked. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill’s photojournalism department in 2007, I did some globetrotting and circled back to the North Carolina triangle to grow some roots. I have been capturing weddings and families for the past twelve years, and I absolutely love what I do. When I’m not taking pictures, I’m trying to keep up with my wild toddler and marathoner husband, working in my garden, tasting new beers, or cuddling with our pup, Dax.
Blogging, social media posting, and curating magazine submissions certainly aren't my strong suits. But lucky for both of us, that's not my focus. My goal is delighting my clients. I want YOU to love your images. I want them to mean something to you and to bring you back to the memories you made while I was taking them. My documentary training helps me anticipate moments and blend in to the scenery. You won't find me staging photo ops and blocking your mom's view of you coming down the aisle. I want you to (mostly) forget I'm there. (But I'll definitely let you know if you've got something in your teeth , and I cherish friendships with my sweet clients.)
